One of the most important features on a smartphone is its battery and how long it lasts between charges; what good is having all the best specs and features if your device keeps running out of power? If you are looking for a smartphone with the best possible battery life, here are a few recent models that might be suited for you.
What’s the secret for better smartphone battery life?
Besides the battery capacity (measured in milliamp hour, or mAh), it is important to have a good chip and a decent amount of RAM to make task handling easier. The stronger the chip and the RAM, the easier it will be for the smartphone to fulfill the desired operations, which in turn reduces the effort made by the battery to complete the tasks.
In this list you will find that no battery works alone, the secret is the team work between the listed components. Then, of course, there’s the human factor: a responsible use of the smartphone and its battery will also contribute to good performance levels.
Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus
With its 6.2” Infinity screen and all the top features it possesses, one would expect a struggle to maintain decent battery life. But thankfully Samsung thought about it and decided to add a 3500mAh battery to the S8 Plus. Thanks to this battery, the 4GB of RAM and the smooth work of the Snapdragon 835 processor, the S8 Plus was able to surpass the S7 and, more importantly, surpass initial expectations.
Google Pixel XL
It may not have a battery to match other smartphones on this list (“only” 3450 mAh) but the Google Pixel was a nice surprise in terms of battery life. Besides the battery size, the Pixel XL benefits from the presence of Android 7.1 Nougat along with the 4GB of RAM and the Snapdragon 821 processor, all of which make task handling easier and reduce the toll taken on the battery.
LG X Power
The LG X Power has just recently landed in Canada but it is already catching the eye of potential buyers, thanks to its 4100mAh battery which provides some decent battery life numbers. Even though its specs are not as attractive as other smartphones on this list (2GB of RAM and a Quad-Core 1.3 GHz Snapdragon 210 chip), the combination seems to work, as it showed higher stamina than other phones with stronger features on performance tests.
Asus ZenFone 3 Zoom
The ZenFone 3 Zoom has emerged as the new king of battery life, outlasting other smartphones by as much as 3 hours in different performance tests. The secret is its impressive 5000mAh battery, backed by a Snapdragon 625 processor and 4GB of RAM, which allows it to handle a 5.5” AMOLED screen, two cameras (12MP Dual main camera and 13MP front camera) and pretty much everything you demand from it longer than any other smartphone on this list.
…and what about iPhones?
As you may know from experience, battery life is the iPhone’s “Achilles heel”, as they tend to always come up short in this field, even with continuous increases of battery capacity from one generation to the other. Right now, the iPhone 6S Plus still reigns as the iPhone with best battery life (with an honorable mention for the iPhone SE in the “small iPhone” department), as the iPhone 7 showed lower results than its predecessor. Apple continues to work on the subject, so expectations are high for the next edition/generation, whatever it will be called (iPhone 7S, iPhone 8 or even iPhone Pro).
